Arboretum Finland 100 years
To celebrate the centennial Independence of the republic of Finland, the Municipality of Sipoo let build an arboretum. The arboretum is situated in Nikkilä, Jokipuisto area, close to the Festival Hall. There are more than 30 different kinds of trees in the arboretum, including different kinds of spruces, nut trees, oaks and populus trees.
Children who were born in the festive year had the opportunity to reserve a tree for their new born family member in the arboretum. There are around 60 trees named after children born in Sipoo in 2017. Most of the trees in the arboretum where planted together in June 2018. The families were able to plant their children's named trees with the guidance of a professional gardener. Tens of people arrived to the event.
During the summer of 2018 the rest of the named trees were planted. To ensure good growth, the trees in the arboretum have been supported and watered regulary.
Take a walk into the Nikkilä arboretum and get to know the beautiful and sometimes exotic trees!
