K17 - A multidisciplinary art space
Located in Nikkilä, Sipoo, K17 is an adventurous new multidisciplinary art space operating all year-round. The unique building was once used as the Nikkilä Psychiatric Hospital greenhouse and has served as a project and exhibition space for art since 2022. K17 offers artists a longer exhibition period than usual, two months for free work and presentation of art. The structure of the space makes it possible to perform works between outdoor and indoor spaces and encourages challenging prevailing practices of performance and work. K17 working group members are visual artists Mika Helin and Iisa Lepistö.
K17 provides a platform for art projects that are difficult or impossible to carry out in traditional gallery and museum environments. This opens up opportunities for more flexible work both materially and time-wise, as well as for creating a new type of audience relationship. The artists or working groups selected for the exhibition space have a two-month working period, of which the spaces are open to the public for an average of three weeks. Using a two-month project period, K17 creates a framework to create a deeper relationship between the artist, the works and the space. K17 activities are maintained in cooperation with the Municipality of Sipoo's Cultural Services.
K17's exhibitions and events are announced on the website and social media (Instagram). All visitors are welcome!
